3-Day "Light & Shadow" Landscape & Still-Life Workshop with Phil Starke
This workshop will be about thinking in terms of light and shadow when looking at our subject (landscape and still-life). Students will learn how to use light and shadow to construct a good composition, set up simple values that capture the essence of a scene, and how to simplify the thought process of mixing color. Student will be using both photographs of landscape and still- life set-ups. We will go through the painting process from thumbnails to finished painting, touching on the fundamental principles of painting. Demonstrations will be in oil but acrylics and pastels are welcome.
Come Paint the Old West
Historic Tubac, Arizona
The workshop will take place in Tubac, Arizona's oldest settlement. Tubac is backed up against the Santa Rita Mountains and is surrounded by cottonwoods, streams and canyons. Old adobe street scenes, as well as the Tumacacori Mission, are excellent examples of the old Spanish architecture we will explore.
