More of Celebrating Autumn

Autumn – George Innes

I have several George Innes paintings, some Chauncey Ryder and one John Carlson. In the latter stage of his career Innes created a really dramatic sense of light and his detail dissolves into subtle color variations.

The Red Oak looks really finished but its kept very simple, he uses edges and simple values to make it work.

Chauncey Ryder

Chauncey Ryder was a tonalist, like Innes. This painting has a real abstract quality to it, also like Innes. Everything is just suggested with little or no detail.

This is another Ryder, his focus isn’t detail but the suggestion of  depth and form and good color harmony.

I don’t know if this really classifies as autumn, maybe late autumn, early winter, but there is still leaves on the some of the trees, plus I wanted to throw in a Carlson. Very solid trees.
